The Blue Silvretta

38-part travel narrative
Commissioned expedition to the Jamtal, Galtür, Tyrol from 10.05. - 17.05. and from 13.06. - 18.06.2013

I was commissioned by the Museum Alpinarium Galtür to work for a total of three weeks in a camp in the Jamtal at a height of approx. 2,100 metres above sea level. For this stay, I had chosen the quiet, – at this height still winterly – closing period of the nearby mountain hut. The Galtür mountain rescue team carried my equipment up to the camp site on foot. Due to an unusual onset of wintery weather that year, two attempts were necessary before I could complete the work successfully.
As my main piece of work, I painted a documentary landscape image in the format 155 x 180 cm.
The painting, studies, texts and videos, together with a sound work produced later, have been on permanent display under the project title Die blaue Silvretta / The Blue Silvretta in the Museum Alpinarium in Galtür since January 2014.

Two videos are running in the room. Video 1 shows the mountain rescue team transporting the bags, Video 2 shows my life and work in the camp.

A book of 14 pages (C-print) lies on the stone. Here, the progress of the trip is represented in short excerpts from my travel diary.
